Global warming and climate change affect more than simply the environment. In reality, it poses a threat that will exacerbate the other problems we are already working to resolve.

What causes climate change, exactly?

Globally renowned researchers have discovered that the Earth is currently 1.2 degrees Celsius (2.2 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than it was in 1850, just before the Industrial Revolution began.

For heat and power during this time, people have been burning more “fossil fuels” including oil, gas, and coal. Gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane are released into the atmosphere when fossil fuels are burned.

These gases warm the air surrounding the planet, sort of acting like a greenhouse that traps heat inside. They are frequently referred to as “greenhouse gases” for this reason.

How does it work ?

The way it works is that some of the light from the Sun that strikes the surface of the Earth is absorbed and then re emitted as infrared energy, which we experience as heat. That heat would just radiate back into space in the absence of greenhouse gases. The infrared radiation is instead absorbed by CO2 and other gases, some of which are then sent back toward the Earth.

Human activity increases the amount of these gases in the atmosphere, which increases the amount of solar energy that returns to Earth and warms our planet.

Why does climate change matter?

There are many frightening impacts of warmer weather. Some issues could be evident, like the strong connection between droughts and heat waves and warmer temperatures.

How to help stop climate change

• Keep track of and report on your emissions of greenhouse gases.
• By utilising renewable energy, investing in carbon offsets, or sequestering (capturing and storing) carbon, you can lower the carbon emissions produced by your own operations.
• Discuss climate change with your family and close friends. Let them see how it will affect the things they cherish. Then, assist them in identifying practical methods to cut carbon production.
